Valorant target switching practice: speed and evasive
The benchmark measures your switching with 4 scenarios per level, speed and evasive. Scenarios, three mistakes and a Hardcore week of 240 session minutes.
What switching measures
Switching groups two benchmark subcategories: speed, where you chain targets as fast as you can, and evasive, where targets dodge. In both, what counts is the time between two targets.[1]
Each level has four switching scenarios.[2] At Novice you play VT psalmTS Novice and VT skyTS Novice for speed, VT evaTS Novice and VT bounceTS Novice for evasive. The names stay the same at Intermediate and Advanced, only the thresholds go up.[3]
| Novice scenario | Subcategory | Iron to Gold |
|---|---|---|
| VT psalmTS Novice | speed | 620 to 830[3] |
| VT skyTS Novice | speed | 780 to 1040[3] |
| VT evaTS Novice | evasive | 450 to 620[3] |
| VT bounceTS Novice | evasive | 490 to 680[3] |
At Advanced, the Celestial threshold is 1330 on psalmTS, 1600 on skyTS, 830 on evaTS and 1050 on bounceTS.[3] Each subcategory's energy is the average of its two scenarios, at 90 points per rank.[4]
What it takes and what you get
One detail specific to this skill: in none of the three routines is a switching exercise optional.[5] You never have to wonder whether you can skip it.
You get the energy of speed and of evasive separately. If one trails more than 15% below your best subcategory, the switching exercises move up, and the others stay at low priority.[6]
You play in KovaaK's on PC, paid on Steam.[7] A community thread counts target switching, speed matching and fingertip microadjustment among the skills to train outside matches.[8]
Three common mistakes
Opening too wide too early. One guide advises starting with close targets, then gradually increasing the distance between them.[9] If you miss a lot of targets, stay at the Novice level before moving up.
Keeping the same rhythm everywhere. Switching is a trade between speed and accuracy.[1] The note on Pokeball ww6t says it simply: set your pace by where the targets are.[10] A constant rhythm on targets at uneven distances costs you shots.
Thinking you must change weapon. One guide points out that Vandal practice transfers to the Phantom, because the switch motion stays the same.[11] Do not lose a week testing guns.
A week focused on switching
Calculated example, not a real result. An Intermediate player has these energies: dynamic 620, static 600, strafe-click 590, precise 610, reactive 600, strafe-track 580, speed 470, evasive 450.[6] The best is dynamic at 620. Speed sits 24% below it, evasive 27%: both get medium priority, so switching is the skill to work on.[6]
Overall energy comes to 557, between 400 and 700: the proposed routine is Elite, which holds three switching exercises.[12][5] The player picks Hardcore for four days: 3 sessions and 20 deathmatches per day, with 3 high-priority slots.[13]
The priority pool holds exactly 3 exercises and the rotation takes 3: voxTS Voltaic, Pokeball Frenzy Auto 1w2ts and Pokeball auto ww6t come back every day.[14] No exercise sits at medium priority here, so the day is filled with low-priority exercises.[6][14]
| Item | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|
| KovaaK's sessions | 4 days, 3 sessions of 20 minutes | 240 minutes[13] |
| Pure switching | 4 days, 3 exercises of 10 minutes | 120 minutes[13] |
| Deathmatches | 4 days, 20 per day | 80[13] |
Half of your session is switching. If that is too much, drop to Elite: two high-priority slots instead of three, and the rotation then spreads the three exercises over several days.[13][14]
Settings that matter
- voxTS at two sensitivities. The note on voxTS: 2 runs at double sensitivity, then 2 at your normal sensitivity.[10]
- Headshots only. On patTargetSwitch, hold fire and chain head-level targets, the 360 version trains wide angles.[10]
- Intensity. Hardcore assumes three sessions a day. If you only hold two, pick Elite.[13]
- Deathmatch. A community thread judges one deathmatch worth three times a 15-minute routine: keep the deathmatches to check that your switching holds in game.[15]
How to start
- Sign in with your Google account, it is free.
- Play the 12 Novice benchmark scenarios, 4 of them switching, and enter your scores.[2]
- Compare speed and evasive with the other subcategories: if one is more than 15% below the best, that is your priority.[6]
- Pick your intensity, follow the daily routine, then redo the benchmark the following week.

Frequently asked questions
What is target switching in Valorant?
It is the trade between speed and accuracy as you move from one target to the next.[1] The benchmark measures it with two subcategories: speed and evasive.
What is the difference between speed and evasive?
The benchmark splits them into two subcategories of two scenarios each: psalmTS and skyTS for speed, evaTS and bounceTS for evasive.[2] Once your averages are in, the lower of the two shows where to work.[4]
Can I practice switching on the Range?
Yes. One guide describes a drill with armored bots: two bullets while holding fire, one per target.[16] The Range gives you no rank threshold, the benchmark does.
Do I need to change weapon to practice?
No. One guide notes that Vandal practice transfers to the Phantom, because the work is on the switch motion.[11]
